FINS SPECIAL REPORT                                 JANUARY 19, 1994

Washington, D.C.  The Federal Information News Syndicate (FINS) announced
today the opening of the FINS InfoAge Lib, an experimental "digital
library" located at the inforM (Information for Maryland) system.  The
experimental library will contain back issues of Fins news columns and
reports, as well as pivotal public policy papers pertaining to the
development of the emerging Information Age.  The library will be governed
by the principle of "less is more," underscoring the need in an
information rich society of careful focus and synthesis of information.

	The InfoAge Lib will be organized around the jurisdictions of the
several Committees of Congress that are the primary bodies engaged in
recommending public policy in this domain.  Four organizational frameworks
will be utilized at this time: (1) Public information; (2) Information
resources management; (3) Information infrastructure; and (4)
Telecommunications infrastructure.  It is expected that adjustments will
have to be made from time to time as experience yields better
understanding of this subject.  To browse this library and retrieve

the Fins InfoAge Lib is now located:

   The FINS InfoAge Lib may also be accessed through CapAccess, Gopher
Servers of the World, and the University of Wisconsin Gopher Servers of
the World.

  FINS will welcome comments, criticism, and support from all user groups
with a view toward improving the organization, content focus, and access
to this experimental library.
