In Harvey's interpretation of the biblical tale, Jonah is being spit out by the whale rather than being swallowed, thus emphasizing God's desire to deliver humanity from distress. An awareness of man's place within the cosmos and an accompanying respect for nature and its creations were often themes in Harvey's works, as they have been in African art since Egyptian times.

You may see the sea.
You may see different from me
You may see the world turn
You may see the fire burn.
You may make it true
Because you may see a picture of you.
