In Master, Please, one of Harvey's most disturbing examinations of race relations, the artist interprets the sexual exploitation of a young female slave by her lecherous master. As indicated by Harvey's explanation, she sees beyond the painful act by illustrating its present-day implication:
She's asking him 'Master please,' not to hurt her, not to do this thing to her, but he did anyway, and that's how some of the African Americans are light-complected and some are dark-complected. We're a mixed race of people now, because of being taken advantage of, and it's nothing no more to worry about because now the whole world is mixed.

AWAKENING THE SPIRITS
Is what Ms. Harvey does.
When she dreams,
She make her dreams come from
Up above.
By the use of
Wood is how they
Come alive, and
How her paintings make all of
Us cry.
Within her
Creations how blacks
survived and lived.
Commanded by the
White man, I think
That they would
Rather be killed.
Her painting and art work can teach
Us a lot about Black history,
By unsolving the untold mystery.
