If language is learned through interaction - the give and take of information about shared topics, negotiation for meaning, expansion of propositions, repetition, and clarification that occur in any conversation, then an environment rich in practice with the target language should foster growth.
This presentation will demonstrate that the use of Daedalus Integrated Writing Environment, as an interactive instructional medium in deaf and second language classrooms, nurtures intellectual community through student-directed discussion of writing and leads to success for students who are faced with the arduous challenge of developing a voice in the language of a changing world.
