The presenters will address the unique and often frustrating needs brought to postsecondary programs by deaf adults, currently referred to as "traditionally underserved." This group of adults often experiences failure and frustration. In many cases, the system experiences similar frustrations. It is not unusual for the student to run through the system without benefit, wasting dollars and instructional time and limited sponsorship funds. We face a risk of perpetuating misunderstanding of the general Deaf population as well. The presenters will describe the characteristics of this population of students with multiple needs and the specific services needed to maximize their success.
