The task of assisting deafened adults in adapting to the loss of receptive communication and the resulting educational, social, psychological, and vocational adjustments presents a challenge to educators counselors, and rehabilitation personnel. Deafened adults may enter postsecondary programs to enhance their employment skills or to learn new job skills. This presentation will provide conference participants with personal insight of adult onset hearing loss, assisting in the development of coping skills, computer-aided realtime translation services (CART), and other resources available to assist deafened adults.
