Merging the offices of Academic Advising, the Career Center and Office for Students with
Disabilities at Gallaudet University last year provided more comprehensive academic and
career advising services for students, including students with additional disabilities.
Session participants will receive the following information: 1) the philosophical basis for
combining the three offices, 2) services that are offered through Academic Advising
and Career Center, 3) the process for completing the merger and cross-training
professionals on advising, career, and disability-related functions, 4) the
process for re-defining and developing new and expanded partnerships with other units on
campus (Admissions and Enrollment Services, Freshman Year Seminar, Honors
Program, Campus Life, Alumni Programs, academic departments), 5) technological resources
that support our services, and 6) benefits of this collaborative
