The passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and recent case law brings the
issue of disability access to the forefront at institutions of higher education. Higher
education administrators and disability service providers are faced with difficult
decisions regarding how to provide the most efficient and cost effective access
throughout the institution. The purpose of this session is two-fold. First, the presenters
will provide an overview of the legal mandates of the ADA, pertinent case law
and Office for Civil Rights Decisions. Second, the presenters will outline appropriate
accommodations and explore the meaning of qualified interpreters.
