Teamwork, negotiation, trust, comfort and empowerment are all by-products of the unique
relationship that is developed between the deaf or hard of hearing professional and the
interpreter. The postsecondary setting requires the deaf professional to move in and out of numerous roles and functions
- the interpreter must be adaptable to these changing personas and agendas. This session
conducted in Sign Language will include discussion of and videotaped examples of
interpreting at staff meetings, for deaf faculty, making phone calls, giving presentations and
when involved in other university/college business. Having worked as a team for over
three years, the presenters have much to share about their experiences.
