Many people give up their jobs, often after putting in years of service, because they feel they are no longer able to manage group meetings, supervise other workers, or communicate effectively over the phone due to their hearing loss. Others avoid, drop out, or fail in educational settings. This could be prevented if service providers and consumers were aware of the crucial role technology, beyond hearing aids, can play in restoring communication--even for persons with severe to profound losses. This paper provides a brief overview of the wide array of accommodation options available that will help individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, and late deafened remain a productive and vital part of the work force and successfully continue their educational endeavors.
