Participatory Research and Planning

Building the capacity of community members to shape the design of research that informs public policy is a critical component of increasing civic engagement in practice of democracy.

The Community Partnership Center (CPC) is a participatory research and planning center that collaborates with community stakeholders in all phases of research design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. Our recent projects include:

  • Workshops and training to develop the capacity of non-profits, community advocacy groups, public agencies, and university researchers to implement participatory methods for research, evaluation, and policy and program development (Learning Initiative);

  • Participatory Planning for Sustainable Development (Sustainable Communities);

  • Collaborative Research with Grassroots Health and Environmental groups in Oak Ridge, Tennessee (ORCA);

  • Participatory Planning in Knoxville's Empowerment Zone (EZ);

  • Developing a framework for social and gender planning and analysis in a global international development agency (HPI).
