Photos from the Academically Correct Program

The program includes all students at Austin-East in various ways. Here, students work together to explore innovative ways to film the talk-show component of the program.
Mr. Wilson, Digital Technology instructor at Austin-East, teaches a video class each Fall. He has involved several of his former students as the film crew for the project. The students direct the video process for the weekly show that will be seen by all Austin-East students.
A common complaint was that students did not get to read about what was of interest to them.  Therefore, students were asked to write articles about subject matter they care about.  Here, students work together to edit articles they are working on.
As an incentive for full participation, a contest is held each week based on the reading activity. Winners are rewarded with a prize and also by recognition on the Academically Correct bulletin board located in the front of the high school. This photo is of three young ladies who created an interpretive dance to poetry written by students for the show.
Involving the community in education is part of the Austin-East agenda for improving the school environment. Prominent community members have been asked to participate as readers for the program and they appear as guests on the weekly talk show. Here, Vicki Lynn Wilson, a poet and Austin-East alum has lunch with students to discuss her work.
