On the subject of unusual number bases, my classmate William T. Barker
(e-mail wtb@sonnenschein.com) once wrote a paper on using negative numbers
as bases. I seem to recall that this paper was for the Westinghouse
Science Talent Search and I don't know if it was ever published.
