One point I have not seen raised in this discussion of whether one _must_
learn the original languages is the religious analogue. I think all
Muslims are supposed to learn Arabic so they can read the Koran in the
original, but most Christians are happy to read the Bible in their own
language (although most Christian clergy are supposed to learn Hebrew and
Greek).
