I too have followed the thread of discussion on who should, or if we
should teach the history of mathematics to underprepared students.
I will not be told I shouldn't teach what I love with all my heart -
no matter what 'Ivory Tower' it comes down from.
Like Karen Dee Michalowicz I have many (thousands) of students who
have passed through my (college & university) course(s) and they must
have also loved my class because I have won two outstanding teaching
awards at the university level for these liberal arts history of math
courses I take sole responsibility (good or bad) for creating.
I am not one to sit on my accomplishments and falsely believe that I
have acquired total mass retain of historical knowledge regarding
mathematics. I know I can do better and am always willing and trying
to learn more - there are several contemporary historians that I try
communicating with for input, info, and, in general, direction, but
I guess the I.T. doesn't accept e-mails from mortals.
