Let me say that I, too, remember Robin Gandy very warmly. I met
him several times, and he once drove me from Cambridge to Oxford
and back - taking about three hours each way, most of which time
was taken up with anecdotes about Alan Turing. This was quite some
time ago - well before the Hodges book, which I'm sure retells them
all much better than I could. At that time, Gandy seemed absolutely
certain that it was suicide.
My feeling about his mother's biography, for what it's worth,
is that the person she was really trying to convince was herself,
and I'm very doubtful whether she succeeded even in that! I don't
know whether Andrew agrees?
