The best source on the general question you raise, namely
the influence of Ditton and other fluxional writers, is
the book by Niccolo Guicciardini on The Development of
Newtonian Calculus in Britain, 1700-1800, Cambridge
University Press, 1989.
One may also consult Cajori's History of the conceptions of
limits and fluxions in Great Britain from Newton to
Woodhouse, but it is both old and relatively superficial.
