Thanks to John and Antreas. Actually, Hasse and Artin
were computing with p-adic logarithms a lot (in connection
with explicit reciprocity laws); it's quite amusing that
Hasse seems to have dug up an old paper by Weddle
(probably the one mentioned in the review posted by Antreas)
with a technique for multiplying logarithms that would be
useful to Artin (& himself).
