The independent film producer George Paul Csicsery (_N is a Number:
A Portrait of Paul Erd\"os_, 57 min) has started work on a 60 min
documentary (1) about the solution of Hilbert's tenth problem.
Tracing the solution of this problem through the work of Martin
Davis, Hilary Putnam, and Julia Robinson to its definite solution
by a young Russian, Yuri Matiyasevich, in 1970, the film will
convey something of the history and nature of modern mathematics,
and of great mathematical problems, and will focus on the role of
Julia Robinson. As we know, the tenth was one of 23 problems listed
(2) by David Hilbert's in his 1900 address to the International
Congress of Mathematicians as a challenge of the new century. The
project is sponsored by _Film Arts Foundation_ a non-profit arts
organization.
