B. L. van der Waerden's A History of Algebra, From al-Khwarizmi to Emmy
Noether (Berlin/Heidelberg/New York/Tokyo, Springer-Verlag, 1985) would be
suitable for teachers in search of background, requiring some mathematical
sophistication.
