Friends historians,
can we retrace the evolution of the concept of "minimax", at least
apart from Tait and Thomson? They are cited by Poincare in his
SUR L'E/QUILIBRE D'UNE MASSE FLUIDE ANIME/E D'UN MOUVEMENT DE ROTATION.
(Acta mathematica 7, Stockholm Septembre 1885); (p. 261 et 376).
I did not succeed to understand what it meant at that time. Does it have
anything to do with the concept used by von Neumann and Morgenstern?
Thank you for your help.
