Dear Listmembers,
I wonder what to think of recent thesis about Omar-Khayyam-the-mathematician
not being the same person as Omar-Khayyam-the-poet.
This is affirmed by Roshdi Rashed, but his arguments for such a historical
revolution did not convince me: his method is quite strange, as he claims
not to have found proofs for the poet and the mathematician being a sole,
when it seems to me that the presentation of proofs must be furnished by the
tenants for the reverse.
Probably much of which is presented as Khayyam's poetry is not genuine,
especially what concerns drinking, which often looks more like vulgar
advertising pro wine-business, than symbolic expression for ecstatic Love.
No, I shall not quote any of O. K.'s quatrains.
Nota bene: I allude here O. K.'s collective mathematical works, excellent
recent edition given by Roshdi Rashed, along with Bijan Vahabzadeh, where a
translation in French is given regarding a transcription in modern Arabic.
