Dinesh's question relating to Aryabhata, looking for a Persian or
Arabic translation of Siddganta may known. A recent Aryabhata
conference arranged by George G. Joseph may have reported this fact,
or related non-fact.
As a connected issue, I saw a recent African program reporting many
Mali texts, from the 1100 AD period, that are untranslated. As
listmembers may know, Mali offers a dry climate, with many libraries
of Arabic and regional scientific texts that lay unread, except by
their family owners.
Why have these Mali libraries been left unread? Could Aryabhata and
other important authors (even Omar K., per Ralph's question) be found
there?
