A suggestion to Alejandro Martin concerning litterature and the continuum
in the past and present:
Michael White's "The Continuous and the Discrete" (Clarendon Press 1992)
is subtitled "Ancient Physical Theories from a Contemporary perspective"
and contains a lot of interesting information even on mathematical matters.
