On the off chance that not everyone on this list reads German, I offer
herewith a translation of Freudenthal's remarks. I'm not a native speaker
of German, so I will accept corrections gratefully.

Translation:

Hilbert's "Foundations" was developed further in 8 editions, although in
different degrees. This story is now quite closed, as one fine day Euclid's
"Elements" also was.

But from Euclid's "Elements" one can perhaps learn what one ought to do with
Hilbert's "Grundlagen": annotate it. Such a task is not today in much favor.

One may happily leave this to historians. These are people who take pity on a
science when it's dead as a doornail. If one takes that as a criterion, it's
admittedly too early for Hilbert's "Grundlagen".
