        Ulrich Fahrenberg points out a nuance in the German sentence
"Man ueberlaest sie gerne Historikern"

and suggests "This is often left to historians" as English translation.
Thanks for that. My German is not good enough that I would have caught it.
But Ulrich also says

        Maybe a better English translation would be "One is pleased to
leave this to historians".

        I hope this use of "One is pleased" gives the sentence a stiff
pretentious air, and so may suggest the irony intended.
