Dear K. Subramaniam and other fellow HM listers,
Koenraad Elst, Leuven (Belgium) has written a very detailed three
part article on "Astronomical data and the Aryan question" dealing with
the dating of the ancient Indian texts.
The article is available on-line at

This article was posted on 21 December 1998. And since then the re-dating
of the literature by Kalidasa has been verified to coincide with the
astronomical findings by the recent discovery of a wall inscription in
Prakrit and Sanskrit in a cave near the city of Ujjain which were
deciphered in the latter part of 1999.
There have been other articles by archaeologists Dr. Richard H. Meadow and
Dr. Jonathan M. Kenoyer of Harvard University who have been responsible
for the excavations of the Indus Valley sites in the recent past. I do
not have the complete articles from them but only the excerpts and would
like the complete work if possible. However, I do know that Dr. Kenoyer
and his team discovered evidence of writing on numerous pieces of pottery
which have been dated to 3300-3400BC; making it the oldest known writing
(predating the Babylonians); this made the BBC news last year. They also
discovered fire altars, corresponding to the Vedic ones, dating back to
3rd millennium BC.
Regards,
Dinesh
