A riddle: you can find in Paris streets 135 little copper disks with
N
ARAGO
S
written on it, from Porte Montmartre to Parc Montsouris. Why?
Some informations: there is a "Guide du Paris savant" published by Belin
www.pourlascience.com
I think that the Musee des Arts et Metiers is closed at the moment.
There is not that much lectures in April, because there are holidays
in the second half of the month:
14 Avril: les mathematiques dans les universites: une approche comparative
IHP (Institut Henri Poincare) 11 rue Pierre et Marie Curie, de 14h a 18h30
7 Avril, ENS, 45 rue d'Ulm , salle W de 17h30 a 19h
G. RODIS-LEWIS Descartes mathematicien
ATTEN)
There is a conference about "l'existence en mathematiques", le 27 mars
9h-19h, IHP (CARTIER, MICHEL, SERFATI, MOSCONI, BITBOL, LONGO)
The library of the IHP is very rich in historic books, and they are
quickly and easily available. In the same street, you find the library
of Ecole Normale Superieure, very rich too. The Bibliotheque Nationale
has moved to the TGB (Tres Grande Bibliotheque) and they have a lot of
problems with their computers.
You have a big library, too, at the Cite des Sciences de La Villette,
and a scientific museum, of course)
And sales on auction of books, if you have some spare euros... a l'Hotel
Drouot (this week: les Cours de l'Ecole Normale (estimation 5000 euros!),
and original editions of Cauchy and Jacobi..
