Another useful reference is R.C. Archibald's Presidential Address to the
Mathematical Association of America, 6 September 1923.

R.C. Archibald, 'Mathematicians and Music', American Mathematical Monthly
(January 1924), 1-25.

which contains numerous references to articles on mathematics and music,
several quotations, examples of mathematicians with musical talents or
interests (eg Bolyai liked to play violin solos after winning duels!), and
includes a discussion of the questions "What are the relations of
mathematics to music? What have mathematicians written about music or its
theory?" which starts with the Greeks and ends with the harmonic analyzer.

Best wishes,
