My German is not very sensitive to nuances of connotation, but I think
Hilbert may have been quoting from memory. "Anschauung" can mean
"perception", I think, which is not far from "the senses". The difference
between "Begriff" and "Idee" (concept and idea) is also not spacious.
However, I'm sure there are people on this board who have better German
and English than I, so I'm going to shut up at this point.
