Emile Cotton (1872 - ?) M.W. Haskell (1863 - ?)
Thank-you for your time."
Emile Cotton was born on February 5, 1872, and passed away on March 14, 1950.
His dissertation, "Sur les varietes a trois dimensions" (Universite
de Paris), was written in 1899.
Mellen Woodman Haskell (1863-1948), one of the first US students of Felix
Klein (1849-1925), addressed his dissertation "Ueber die zu der Curve
[f(l,m,n) = 0] im projektiven Sinne geho"rende mehrfache Ueberdeckung der
Ebene" (Go"ttingen Universita"t) in 1890.
Many things might be said as to the contributions of both mathematicians on
the interactions of geometry and algebra in the 19th century. Donna Stewart
probably is examining these relationships!
