Dear colleagues,
I have found a manuscript written by Emanuel Swedenborg (certainly written
between 1715 and 1720), where he presents the differential calculus with
both rectilinear and "polar" coordinates. He uses that to find formulas for
subtangent, area, volume, rectification, curvature. He also presents how to
find max-min and a definition (like l'Hospital) of the second differential.
I am interested in finding his source. The text is not comparable to Analyse
des infiniment petits 1696 (l'Hospital doesn't calculate areas or length of
curves) or Reyneau's Analyse demontre/e 1708 (Reyneau is not as elementary
as Swedenborg about polar coordinates).
I would like to know if there are any other "elementary" books including
differential calculus written between 1708 and about 1720.
Did Christian Wolff or Varignon publish anything during that period?
Best greetings
