I made a once in a lifetime purchase this week. By auction, I was able to
obtain the l554 ed of the Tartaglia which applies mathematics to artillery
science. It hasn't arrived yet; however, it's on it's way. I am thrilled. I
got my Rara Arithmetica out and have been reading. The only Tartaglia of
which I am familiar is the one in the American University archives,1565,
Euclide Megarense.

The book has brought many questions to my mind. How did it get in a small
store in Ohio in the USA, not even a book store? When I receive it, I'll
give a phone call and actually ask this question of the seller. How many
copies exist? Rara Arithmetica mentions the 1554 edition of Quesiti ed
Inventioni and David Smith wrote that he had not seen it.

If any of you have any information please share it with me. This summer I
will bring it to the Institute for developing historical modules for the
secondary classroom which I am honored to co-direct with Victor Katz.

Best wishes,

Karen Dee Michalowicz
