James Stimpert (@ MSE Library, Johns Hopkins University) kindly informed
me that they do have a student file for Harry Clinton Gossard, which
includes correspondence as well as some basic biographical information.
Gossard was born March 13, 1884, at Helena, Ohio. He earned a B.S. degree
from the Ohio Northern University in 1907. He was a graduate student at
Johns Hopkins in 1907-1908, and 1910-1914. According to a letter in his
student file, he spent two years away from Hopkins due to lack of money.
Gossard earned his PhD in 1914, and after that he taught at the U.S. Naval
Academy 1918-1919, at the University of Oklahoma 1919-1922, and at the
University of Wyoming.
The Johns Hopkins University also has one portrait photograph of Gossard,
dated 1914.
Public Affairs (University of Oklahoma) forwarded my message to the chair
of the mathematics department, who kindly informed me that unfortunately
they have no biographical information about H.C. Gossard.
With best regards from Montevideo,
Julio Gonzalez Cabillon
