Dear Colleagues,
In a recent article, just published in the _Notices of the AMS_ [vol 47,
no 4, April 2000], Robin Hartshorne writes about teaching geometry to
undergraduates with Euclid's and Hilbert's geometry at the base, and with
modern algebra added later. According to Robin, there is no need for real
numbers, and the true essence of geometry can develop naturally and
economically.
