Subject: [HM] von Staudt's Geometrie der Lage
From: Robin Hartshorne (robin@math.berkeley.edu)

One of the founders of modern projective geometry
was K. G. C. von Staudt. He set up a system of geometry
entirely free from metrical considerations of
distance and angle--a geometry based only on incidence and
geometric configurations. His work was first published
in 1847 with the title Geometrie der Lage.
This book has had several undated reprints. I would
like to know what reprints there are and when they were
issued. Raymond Clare Archibald, professor at Brown
University, published a note in the Bulletin of the
AMS, 25 (1919) 132-134 describing a copy different
from the first edition. I have found a copy different
from either the first edition of the one described
by Archibald.
I would like to take a census of existing copies to
find further variants. If you are willing to help me
in this endeavor, please look at your library's copy
and answer the questions below (for example by
deleting what does not apply), and return to me at
robin+hist@math.berkeley.edu
With thanks
Robin Hartshorne
