I will correct myself in my description of the curve. There was one
minus-sign too much or if you prefer one too little.
So the center of the semi-circle should be in (0, a).
In some way the method looks like Barrow's and Leibniz' methods of proving
the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus as Struik describes it in his
source-book.
But where to find the use of this special curve? I don't think Duhre found
it himself.
