Friends:

On recommendation from Peter Suber of Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana,
I am reading

Understanding the Infinite
by Shaughan Lavine
Harvard 1994.

Shaughan Lavine sets out to show that the usual history of Cantor's theory
of the infinite is misunderstood, and, for example, to show that the set
theoretic paradoxes, while they do apply to the set theory of Bertrand
Russell, do not apply to the way Cantor understood the infinite.

Does anyone out there know this work that I have just begun to read? Where
is Shaughan Lavine? Does he receive e-mail?

Best wishes,

Sam Kutler
