Hasse's choice of Gamma and Rho probably was determined by the initial
letters of the German terms "ganze Zahl" (integer) and "rationale
Zahl" (rational). I do not think it would have made any sense to
oppose the Latin letter P to the Greek letter Gamma. - Best regards,
