Mornin' Folks!

While reading Robert Tragesser's comment about the "pop'out" edition of
Euclid's ELEMENTS, I was reminded of an edition written by Oliver Byrne,
THE FIRST SIX BOOKS OF THE ELEMENTS OF EULCID IN WHICH COLOURED DIAGRAMS
AND SYMBOLS ARE USED INSTEAD OF LETTERS FOR THE GREATER EASE OF
LEARNERS, published by William Pickering (London 1847). The title tells
all, except that O.B. was surveyor of Her Majesty's settlements in the
Falkland Island (!). After, perhaps while, completing the surveying, he
created this wonderful text. A copy is in the library at my school,
California State University, Northridge. (Un)fortunately it is not for
interlibrary loan. If anyone has the opportunity to see it (or perchance
to get one's library to purchase it), s/he will be delighted.

Peace!
