"Before Writing" was the very book that I was trying to recall. It is in
the St. John's College Library, but I had not heard of her abridgement
How Writing Came About.
I am very grateful.
Now, about your question of whether or not her thesis is acceptable that
writing emerged from counting.
That counting comes before writing seems obvious to me, but what it must
mean is that written numbers come before other writing. For me, I need to
know what counts as other writing. Does picture-language--taken
broadly--count as writing?
I repeat that I am very grateful for your references, as always.
