I haven't checked it out, but I believe Keynes was 9th wrangler (in a
particularly good year). Rarely did the list go down to 9. But
Hardy was 4th wrangler in his year. Getting top was not quite the
thing!

There has been some recent discussion on this and the
Math-history-list archives should have some of it.

But perhaps there is better elsewhere.

Incidentally, we have a minor research interest in common. Your
papers from the mid '70s(?) on the 1st digit problem excited my
interest & I wrote a brief note on the matter (Gaz. Aust. Math.
Soc. 20, 1993, pp. 162-163).
