Dear Colleagues,

A few days ago, fellow subscriber Dr. Siegmund Probst has kindly sent me a
file in RTF-format, containing a chapter - in FRENCH - of a forthcoming book
"Palimpseste: Propos avant un triangle" by Imre Toth, professor emeritus of
the chair of history of science at Regensburg University (Germany), and to
be published in _La biblioth\eque du Coll\ege international de Philosophie_
by _Presses Universitaires de France_. The book has already been translated
into Rumanian in 1995, and to Italian in 1998. The Dutch translation of the
chapter contained in the file was already published in:

BZZLLETIN (sic!), no. 266-267, Mei/Juni 1999, pp. 33-56 with illustrations
by the author, and an introduction by Peter Vardy.

The book is the 'fruit' of Imre Toth's lifelong research on the pre-history,
history, and reception of non-Euclidean geometry. This piece is written in
the form of dialogues between historical and literary figures, and composed
like a collage.

I would like to know whether you would be interested in getting this file as
an e-mail attachment. As far as I've been told, Imre Toth would be glad if
the file could be distributed to interested subscribers of the __HISTORIA de
la MATEMATICA__ e-forum; questions concerning the sources of the text should
be addressed directly to him ( haymeric@aol.com ).

Greetings from Montevideo,
Julio Gonzalez Cabillon
