I must say that if we compare the Euclids and what passed as Euclid's work
in textbooks in the U.S. from the late l9th century on, there is not much
resemblance to the original Euclid. So, in my mind, I think this discussion
might reap more benefits by talking about the difference in the Euclids over
time. The Clavius version certainly was different from the original. I am
told that this was the version used by the "greats" in mathematics.
