Here at UMD, the Secondary Math Education degree stands by itself, but
requires almost as much math as a degree in applied mathematics. For the
applied math degree, one must take one more two course sequence in real
variables, a few more 3000 level electives, and 1 more 5000 level
elective, as well as a complete a seminar attendance program. The
Secondary Math Educ degree now also requires a computers in education
class. A list of requirements can be found on the web at:
http://www.d.umn.edu/~educ/mathteaching.html
UMD is also implementing a six class technology certification program for
teachers which can stand alone or be included in a Bachelors or Masters
degree.
