I teach at a 2 yr. technical college in SC. We offer both AA and AS
degrees. We just changed our AA math requirements due to major problems
with students not being able to pass our College Algebra course! The
AA students will now have a choice, they must choose 2 college parallel
math courses. They will most likely choose the new math survey course
and our intro. to stat. math course. We are still updating the intro
placement process for the survey course. The stat. course requires
a "college level" algebra course, which can be an inter. algebra course
we offer to our nurses.

Yes, we all know AA majors do not "need" all the math in College Algebra!!
I suspect a stronger Math/Business Math course would serve them better. I
voted for this but lost the battle. Our AS students must take College
Algebra and College Trig. as well as many more math/sc. courses.
