There are two issues - one how to discuss a possible position sentence
and the other the actual sentence. I'm all for speeding up the
discussion as you propose. The sentence itself is the gist of what the
Maryland Higher Education Commission just approved and has been the
subject of much discussion. In fact this applies to the AA, AS, AAS and
bachelors degrees in Maryland effective this fall. After a lengthy meeting
last night, what I'd
like to see some discussion on is what is intermediate algebra. It is
changing at the precollege level and perhaps at the college developmental
level too. In a meeting of precollege and college folks in Maryland
there seems to be some variation in what an IA course is. I'm
anticipating that defining it will be one of the next tasks we will face
in our state.
