Salary Range: $35,000 (minimum)
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in mathematics. Evidence of commitment
to quality undergraduate teaching. Able, comfortably, to broaden
professional identity beyond discipline/departmental allegiance. Experience
in, or willingness to use, information technology for instruction.
Interdisciplinary teaching experience and curriculum development preferred.
Experience teaching statistics desired. Ability to connect discipline
knowledge and expertise to the whole curriculum very important.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The selected candidate will join other founding
faculty to help plan, develop, organize, and implement programs and
curricula for the college of arts and sciences. Responsibilities will
include developing the integrated core of courses for the bachelor of arts
in liberal studies, creating a general education program, and devising a
concentration in mathematics. Teaching at first-year to fourth-year level
is expected.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The ideal candidate will have experience
in undergraduate teaching and be knowledgeable about alternative ways of
delivering instruction, especially the uses of collaborative learning and
information technology. The candidate will be skilled in developing
outcome-based curricula and in working collegially to develop
interdisciplinary courses. While being grounded in discipline knowledge is
essential, having the perspective and ability to connect discipline
expertise into the whole curriculum is just as desired. Must be able to
work in a team-leadership environment.

Some additional comments by me, personally:
1) The primary teaching duties of the person hired for this position will be
in statistics
2) Florida Gulf Coast University will initially offer a BA in Liberal
Studies, with concentrations offered in mathematics, biology, environmental
studies, interdisciplinary natural science, english, history, art, computer
science, and a couple of others I'm forgetting right now. There will be an
interdisciplinary core of courses, with an additional 30-36 hours in the
concentration area, at the upper level.
3) Planning for the new curriculum is proceeding apace. The person hired
fort this position will spend at least half time doing curriculum planning
and development for FGUC, until we open.
4) The position will be filled via a multiyear (probably 3-5 year term),
renewable contract. This is not a tenure-earning position.
