I would be frustrated too if I was forced to use these methods because my
administration gave me groups of 100. We limit our class size to 20 in DS.

IMHO, in DS half of our job is to be a cheerleader and convince our students
that they have what it takes to succeed. This terrible class you are forced
to run is clearly a filter, not a pump. It seems to me that a student with
a poor grade on the first test is not going to have any confidence that
things are going to improve nor will that student believe you think that is
likely to happen.

It is inhuman to ask you to give all these students what they obviously
desperately need and it is cruel to put students who already believe they
cannot learn math through an experience like this. You need to have a long
talk with an administrator at your college who cares more about students
than money.
