Students are expected to attend every class. If you do not attend a
class, you have assumed the following responsibilities.
1. Covering the material from the class period ON YOUR OWN. Accessing
outside sources for mastery. Sources such as the video tapes, tutors, study
groups and text book.
2. Turning in the homework assignment that is DUE that day. The
assignment that is due must be in my mail box by 10 pm that evening.
3. Getting the assignment from a classmate and coming prepared with the
assignment to the next class period.
4. Calling a classmate for any information announced in class, such as
date changes etc.
NOTE: Any handouts from the class will be in a folder in the pocket file on
my office door. Stop by the office and pick up handouts prior to the next
class period.
When I review the syllabus in the first class - I explain that they have
paid to be there. If they are not there, the reason must be good enough for
them. BUT if they bought tickets to a concert but didn't attend the
concert... they certainly wouldn't expect the band to play on their front
porch the next night. It's up to them to "get their money's worth".
To be honest attendance isn't a problem. It's tough to "learn it on their
own" They are adults (all over 18) - we don't do them any favors to treat
them as minors.
